Academics
Currently the department offers the following courses
- Undergraduate: Pediatrics training is an important component of MBBS undergraduate program.
MBBS – Lectures , clinical posting and bedside teaching during IVth, Vth and IXth semester
- Postgraduate: D.N.B (Family Medicine) – Intake of 2 students per year. These are posted in the department by rotation. Post graduate DNB (Pediatrics) has been submitted for approval to the N.B.E
- We have undertaken National Training Programs like F-IMNCI and NRP in collaboration with SIHFW (State Institute of Health and Family Welfare), the apex body in the state for conducting such trainings for Medical and Paramedical personnel. Lectures for Medical officers recruited by the state are regularly taken by the faculty at SIHFW.
- B.Sc Nursing- The department faculty is involved in the training of BSc nursing students. Lectures on pediatric nursing by our faculty supplements the teaching program of nursing college.
Nurses and Paramedical staff of the hospital and Nursing students of other colleges posted here are continuously being provided Hands-on training in care of Newborn and Children in the ward and in settings requiring Intensive Care
- Continuous Awareness Campaigns- Lectures on Breastfeeding promotion , Weaning and Nutrition of Infants are regularly taken by the doctors in the Department for the hospital staff with the hope to decrease the incidence of malnutrition, infant & neonatal mortality in the state.
A Departmental Library is maintained in the OPD section of the department. Besides regular teaching program, a weekly journal club is held on every Wednesday in the department.
State level IAP (Indian Academy of Pediatrics) UG and PG quiz(2016) divisional round has been organized by the department faculty.
